Our story

The amazing adventure of The Onion Collective started 10 years ago. Mark (born in Malaysia and raised in the States) arrived in Bali with pretty much nothing but an energy to start a new life. He was determined to create more meaning, more impact around him. It all started with a restaurant called The Delicious Onion in Seminyak. Six years ago, we moved to Ubud to build a community where people can eat delicious food, meet the most interesting people and find inspiration surrounded by digital nomads.

What our Guest Say

The Onion Collective is a home away from home; the atmosphere is warm and welcoming; the vibe laid back and there’s always someone interesting to have a conversation with; with live art and entertainment on site you’ll never need to leave. And you’ll not want to!

Renata Joanna Byrne, Yoga Teacher from London, UK

What our Guest Say

If San Francisco, Berkeley, LA and Bali had a lovechild, it would be the Onion Collective. “Super-fast geek powered wifi” = a godsend for a San Francisco girl whose been in SE Asia for three weeks and wanted to catch up a bit. “Mis-matched furniture” = the cool, laid back, chillaxing vibe you expect in Berkeley, Weather that you basically can’t feel (gentle breeze, warm enough you can wear shorts and a sleeveless top) = the best of LA. And the cool yoga, traveler vibe of Ubud is the icing on the cake. When you come to Ubud do *not* come here immediately. Because you might sit down and never want to leave. This place is the corner cafe I haven’t yet found in San Francisco, and would be in every, single day.
